Carton, Box & Case Erector Suppliers

It’s an automated or semi-automated machine that takes a flat carton and turns it into a fully-formed, sealed at the bottom, open at the top carton ready for packing. While small manufacturing operations will have no immediate need for such a machine, medium to large manufacturers needing to streamline and build the flow between the production line and delivery can use a carton erector as the catalyst to increase performance and output on their entire line.

It can’t increase production as such, but a carton erector will stop any bottlenecks between products coming off the line and products heading out the door. That allows manufacturers to increase production according to market demand, not their ability to pack and send.

Only fully-automated carton erectors can seal cartons. Semi-automatic carton erectors need to work in conjunction with an automated carton sealer.

There are two types of carton erector – automatic and semi-automatic.

• Automatic carton erectors basically do everything to create a ready carton without any need for an operator once everything is set up. They form and fold and even seal the bottom of the carton.
• Semi-automatic carton erectors need an operator to feed cartons into the machine and a separate sealing machine to seal the bottom of the carton.

• What type of cases will be assembled?
• Regular slotted cases, half-slotted or full-overlap slotted?
• What carton dimensions does the machine need to accommodate?
• What quality of corrugated cardboard will the cartons be?
• What speed does the carton erector need to run at to keep pace with production?
• Tape seal or glue seal?

As a rough guide, carton erector prices tend to be in the $5,000 to $10,000 range depending on size and specifications.

The two biggest problems with carton erectors are jams and crooked corners on formed boxes.

• System jams can be an ongoing headache and are often caused by inferior, dirty or damp cardboard.
• Crooked corners on formed boxes can also be caused by inferior cardboard, but may also stem from issues with packaging or palletizing equipment.
