Rare Earth Magnets are the strongest type of magnet and are made from Neodymium, Iron and Boron. Neodymium is one of the so called “Rare Earth” elements on the Periodic Table. Hence, Neodymium magnets have commonly become referred to as Rare Earth Magnets. 

Rare Earth Magnets are usually nickel plated to resist corrosion. The nickel plating gives them a shiny silver appearance.  They are stronger than most people think and larger sizes must be handled with extreme care to avoid injury. 

Usually suitable for temperatures up to 80 degrees C, although some higher temperature stock is available in limited sizes.  All rare earth magnets are hard and brittle so they can chip and break if handled roughly.  They cannot be readily machined.
