What is Microfabrication?

Microfabrication is the process of creating miniature objects on a micrometer scale, as in one millionth of a metre. For reference, a strand of hair is approximately 40 microns or 0.4% of a centimetre (0.16% of an inch). As the technology develops and improves, even smaller scales are obtainable.

How does it work?

 One of the most common forms of microfabrication is photolithography, the process of printing patterns on thin films. This is the same process used to build all kinds of microchips, such as the ones used to make computers, phones and other electronic devices.
