How Intelligent IOT Managing and Control System applied in Wine Making process

The quality of a bottle of wine is determined by both the quality control of the grape and the method used during the winemaking process.

The quality of the grape is mostly controlled by natural and geological factors such as weather conditions and location. Since the quality of grapes can be hardly controlled by humans, manufacturers need to focus on monitoring the wine making process to make sure the quality of their wine stays at a high standard.

The measuring instrument plays an important role in the wine making process to ensure the product stays at a high-quality standard especially at the fermentation stage. Refractive index (nD) and Brix (%) are two major factors need to be monitored all the time to keep the fermentation process at a certain standard. Hence to ensure wine quality stays at a certain level. Refractometer is the key instrument for such measurement. Instead of traditional measuring method, refractometer should be installed in-line or on the tank to improve accuracy of measurement.

For large scale wineries, it is really hard to control all working instruments from the production line. IOT operating systems were invented and designed for our wine manufacturer for integrated management. ZHYQ recently designed our system for our wine makers. The whole system is consisting of 3 major sections and can be connected by wired connection or wireless connection. The 3 major sections are sensors, data acquisition system and controlling software. Our data acquisition system has 7 pots for sensors to connect physically. Each pot can support up to 50 sensors and refractometers with standard Modbus RTU Protocol. All data collected will then get transferred to a control unit (normally a computer) for real-time data management and monitoring. For multiple site monitoring enquiry, our software can also control across multiple sites. Wireless connection can also be managed between our core units. However, connection and set up method varies from case to case. It all depends on what is available at customer‘s location.

IOT managing systems had been widely used by manufacturers in their production line across many major industries. The system can help to increase accuracy and efficiency in measurement during production stages. Wine makers are able to improve the quality of the wine with more accurate monitoring system. The increased efficiency will help them to save labour in production process. IOT managing system is become to be one of the key factors in the future of manufacturing in beverage industries.
