• Walkie straddle stacker. Designed for small warehouses with low racks and limited space, straddle stackers use straddle legs to balance load weight and allow closely stacked floor pallets. While racking has to be configured to allow the straddle legs to pass underneath, they can lift to about 5 metres.  
• Walkie reach stacker. These units are also straddle stackers, but they come with a pantographic scissor mast to move pallets out from the stacker. As a result, they are commonly used for truck loading, though they are also capable of racking work up to about 4.5 metres. 
• Counterbalanced walkie stacker. With these stackers, a long and heavy rear-end counterbalances load weight. While they can move in narrower aisles than straddle stackers, they have a larger turning circle. They can, however, stack pallets up to nearly 6 metres. 
• Standard walkie stacker. Speaking of turning circles, standard stackers have the smallest turning circle of all walkie stackers. While they can also lift two pallets at once due to legs under the forks, they can only lift bottomless pallets to a little over 4 metres.
• Ride-on walkie stacker. Last, but not least, ride-on walkie stackers are basically standard walkie stackers with a ride-on platform requiring no operator walkies. As a result, operators do require a forklift license.

When it comes to working indoors, walkie stackers and other electric forklifts are definitely safer. Petrol and diesel forklifts emit endless toxic fumes which can impact worker health if there isn’t sufficient airflow or automated extraction to remove them quickly. 

Electric forklifts run solely on battery power and are therefore much better for the environment and worker wellbeing.

Prices vary as much as walkie stacker options. At the most basic end, $3,000 will be more than enough. At the top end, expect to pay around $16,000. A perfectly decent and versatile mid-range walkie stacker will cost less than $6,000.
