While ordinary strain gauges measure strain through adhesives, this Strain Checker is attached to the structure with the attractive force of a magnet to measure strain by the friction produced at the interface.
Strain is easily measured by directly attaching the Strain Checker to a position of a steel bridge, crane, or any other structure where you want to measure the strain. Positions of measurement can be easily moved and the measurement can be repeated easily.
Since adhesives are not required, strain measurements require no removal of paint, polishing, degreasing, adhesive bonding or curing. Because of this, no subsequent repainting is required after the measurement.
The attachment and removal of the Strain Checker frictional strain gauge is simple, which makes moving measuring points an easy job. By combining the Strain Checker with the Smart Dynamic Strain Recorder DC-204R, it is possible to move the Strain Checker around just like a normal stethoscope, to find the point at which strain is highest.
Additionally, stress distribution and the direction of principal stress can be obtained by simultaneous multi-point measurement using multiple Strain Checkers.
The unit itself has a gauge length of 6mm, with height 51mm (excluding shaft) and diameter 34mm. The gauge factor is approximately 2, while gauge resistance is 120±1?.
