Project Overview
Port Adelaide Enfield (PAE) City Depot is a typical council workshop where vehicles and equipment are maintained and repaired. The facility has high ceilings, large open floor areas and roller doors that are often left open, making the workshop difficult to keep warm during winter.
The depot had previously used overhead gas radiant heaters, but some of these units were no longer operating. Due to vehicle movement within the workshop, the heaters also needed to be mounted at least 4 metres above floor level on droppers to avoid collision risks.
As part of its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint, PAE Council also planned to increase solar power generation and phase out gas heating across the site. This created a need for a more efficient electric heating solution that could provide targeted warmth to key workstations without heating the entire workshop.
Warehouse Heating Solution: Titan Short-Wave Infrared Heaters
For this project, SBH Solutions recommended a combination of 2kW single and 4kW double Helios Titan short-wave infrared heaters to provide targeted warmth across key workstation areas.
Unlike traditional systems that rely on warming the surrounding air, short-wave infrared technology delivers radiant heat directly to people, equipment and work zones. Once switched on, the heaters create an instant comfort heat zone, making them well suited to large industrial environments where high ceilings, air movement and open roller doors can reduce the effectiveness of conventional heating.
Why Choose Titan Short-wave Infrared Heaters?
The Helios Titan range is designed for industrial and commercial environments. They use short-wave infrared technology to transfer radiant heat through the air and warm people and objects directly, similar to the way sunlight provides warmth. This allows heat to be localised to the areas where staff are working, rather than wasting energy heating the entire open workshop.
The heaters are also suitable for dusty or air-movement-prone environments because they do not rely on circulating warm air. This makes them a strong option for workshops, depots, warehouses and large industrial facilities.
To improve heating efficiency and area coverage, Helios Titan heaters feature patented parabolic reflectors that help direct heat effectively across the target area. They also use InfraCalor® lamps, which can provide up to 7,000 hours of operation depending on usage. The lamps are replaceable, helping reduce downtime and extend the service life of the heating system.
Results
By using targeted electric radiant heating instead of gas heating, PAE Council was able to support worker comfort while making progress towards its broader goal of reducing fossil fuel reliance.
The project demonstrates how short-wave infrared heating can provide an effective gas-free heating solution for large-scale industrial environments, especially where open doors, high ceilings and large floor areas make traditional space heating less efficient.
