Belt mistracking - changing mindset

Belt mistracking is a common and costly occurance, if it is not addressed with efficient belt trackers.

There is a mentality that if your install a tracking frame during a shut, walk away and everything should be running true. However you don't expect your car mechanic to do a repair without test-driving it?

After making modest improvements, more trackers may be required; trackers also may require adjusting or tuning for example. Trough trackers may require the trough angle to be varied, or may require a second one in series. The quality of Trackers selected is never an over-kill, it is a starting point only. Unfortunately due to production demands you generally won't get a second chance to add more. It will be interpreted incorrectly that the tracker failed or does not work.Belt mistracking can go unnoticed which leads to conveyor structure damage.

Facts to remember:

  • HOSCH Belt Trackers, track the belt to the center of the stringers. The number required depends upon the forces that it is trying to combat. If over the years you have accumulated 5 various trackers that require replacing, replace with 5, not one.
  • Having a square head and tail pulley, idlers and framework would certainly help. But wear is never uniform over idlers or rollers and with a short time they start to steer the belt.
  • Carryback build up also changes the shape of your idlers from once symmetrically round and parallel rollers to a conical shape, which is having a steering effect too.
  • The chute is loading anywhere from 2 tons per meter per second to 7 tons per meter per second.
  • Suppliers never want to be seen as over supplying
  • Remember you have a moving snake and clamping this in one or more locations does not guarantee a straight belt.
  • There are always other factors at play.
